We are pleased to have Carola Ferstl, N-TV Presenter, as the master of ceremonies to preside over the keynote sessions and provide the conference introduction.

Carola Ferstl has been an editor and presenter for several radio and television news programmes, such as "news & business" and "telebörse" on N-TV. Since 1992 she has also held positions at TELE 5, RTL, INFO-RADIO 101 and other TV channels

J. Menno Harms holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (Dipl. Ing.) from the Technical University Stuttgart, Germany. He has worked at Hewlett-Packard GmbH since 1968, where he started as a R & D Engineer.

Harms continued working at Hewlett-Packard GmbH in different positions in manufacturing, marketing and sales. In 1981 he was appointed General Manager of the Medical Electronics Division. In addition Harms was one of the Managing Directors of Hewlett-Packard GmbH from 1988 until 1993. In 1993 he became the Chairman of the Management Board of Hewlett-Packard GmbH.

Besides his activities at Hewlett-Packard GmbH, Harms is serving on various boards of industrial companies in Germany. He is Chairman of the German Information Technology Manufacturer’s Association and belongs to the Sponsoring Council of the World Economics Institute in Kiel and is Chairman of the Management Board of Hewlett-Packard GmbH.

After receiving a doctorate in economics and social science, Dr. Wolfgang Kemna began his career at SAP AG in Walldorf in 1987, initially making his mark in German Sales. He later transfer red to Dresden to head up SRS and then on to South Africa, where he was managing director of SAP’s subsidiary there. Between 1995 and 1998, he was responsible for SAP’s activities in the Africa/Middle East/South East Europe region. At the beginning of July 1998, SAP AG’s Executive Board appointed 40-year-old Kemna to the post of managing director responsible for marketing and sales in the Walldorf-based international subsidiary for Germany, which is currently in its start-up phase.

Gary Daichendt is Executive Vice President of Worldwide Operations at Cisco Systems. He has operations responsibility for sales, distribution, manufacturing and the global alliances of Cisco. Mr. Daichendt previously held the positions of Senior Vice President, Worldwide Operations and Vice President Intercontinental Operations. Before joining Cisco, Mr. Daichendt spent ten years with IBM in various sales, marketing, and management positions. Subsequent to that, he spent eight years at Wang Laboratories as Vice President of Central Operations and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. Mr. Daichendt received a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Youngstown State University in Ohio and an M.S. degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University.

Mark Jarvis is Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Oracle Corp. and is responsible for global advertising, public relations, communications & events, pricing, brand management and market analysis. In addition, Mark also drives product marketing for Oracle’s database and system products, including the industry-leading Oracle8 database and Oracle Application Server. Mark joined Oracle in 1990 and has a long list of successes in Oracle marketing, including the launch and rollout of Oracle8, Oracle7.3 and Network Computing Architecture. He also drove the market development efforts of Oracle’s Internet products, including Oracle Application Server and Oracle Internet Commerce Server, and was responsible for the Oracle Systems Management Tools Initiative.

Career milestones of Dr. Späth: Member of Parliament in the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg, chairman of the Parliamentary Party of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg, Prime Minister of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, chairman of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg and vice-chairman of the CDU in Germany. Dr. Späth has managed JENOPTIK, an innovative Jena-based company, since 1991. When the company went public in 1996, he became Chairman of the Board.

Robert Dutkowsky is Executive Vice President, Markets and Channels, for EMC Corporation. Mr. Dutkowsky joined the company in 1997 and is responsible for EMC’s worldwide sales, marketing, enterprise alliances and customer service organisations. He came to EMC from International Business Machines Corporation, where he spent 20 years in a series of sales, marketing and senior management roles. Most recently, Mr. Dutkowsky was Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for IBM’s RS/6000 business. He was responsible for a multi-billion dollar annual revenue stream and a major marketing campaign involving the chess match between world chess champion Garry Kasparov and Deep Blue, an IBM RS/6000. Mr. Dutkowsky is a graduate of Cornell University and is based at EMC’s corporate headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, USA.

Career milestones of Dr. Bangemann: Member of Parliament in the German Bundestag, Federal Chairman of the F. D. P, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs. Dr. Bangemann has been a member of the European Commission since January, 1989. In this position he has been responsible for industrial politics, trade and commerce, information technologies, the information industry and telecommunication.

Nick Earle is a Vice President of Hewlett-Packard Company and Director of Marketing for the Enterprise Computing Solutions Group. He has worldwide marketing responsibility for all of HP’s UNIX system and NetServer Enterprise Solutions business. This includes the servers, storage, HP-UX operating system, HP 3000 computers, VeriFone E-Payment solutions and the alliance with Intel to create the next generation architecture for the IT industry. Earle is located in Cupertino, California.
