Vice President Of The United States
Al Gore was inaugurated as the 45th Vice President of the United States on January 20,
1993. President Clinton and Vice President Gore were reelected to a second term in 1996,
and Vice President Gore was sworn in again on January 20, 1997. Together, they have led
this country into a period of sustained economic growth marked by 16.7 million new jobs,
and the lowest combined rate of unemployment, inflation, and mortgage rates in 28 years.
Throughout the five years that they have worked together, Vice President Gore has
formed an unprecedented partnership with President Clinton. Vice President Gore serves as
an advisor to President Clinton, a Cabinet member, President of the U.S. Senate, a member
of the National Security Council, and head of a wide range of Administration initiatives.
Among elected officials, Vice President Gore's environmental record is unparalleled. He
is the author of the best-seller EARTH IN THE BALANCE: Ecology and the Human Spirit, and
he leads the Administration's initiatives to develop a new generation of vehicles,
stabilize climate change, increase sustainable development, and promote environmental
technologies.
To help create a federal government that works better and costs less, Vice President
Gore heads the National Performance Review, The initiative has saved taxpayers more than
$137 billion and reduced the size of the federal government to its smallest level since
President John F. Kennedy's Administration. He also is President Clinton's advisor on
regulatory review.
Vice President Gore was born on March 31, 1948, and is the son of former U.S. Senator
Albert Gore, Sr. and Pauline Gore. Raised in Carthage, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.,
Vice President Gore received a degree in government with honors from Harvard University in
1969. After graduation, he volunteered for enlistment in the U.S. Army and served in
Vietnam. Returning to civilian life, Vice President Gore became an investigative reporter
with the Tennessean in Nashville. He attended Vanderbilt University Divinity School and
Vanderbilt Law School.
Vice President Gore began his career in public service in 1976 when he was elected to
represent Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977-1985). He was elected to
the U.S. Senate in 1984 and was re-elected in 1990 (1985-1993). A candidate for the
democratic nomination for President in 1988, he won more than three million votes and
democratic contests in seven states.

Lewis E. Platt is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Hewlett-Packard Company. Hewlett-Packard (HP) is an international manufacturer of
measurement and computation products and systems used in industry, business, engineering,
science, medicine and education. Platt joined HP in 1966 and held a variety of management
posts in the company, showing outstanding leadership and vision throughout the years. In
1992 he was elected president and chief executive officer and a member of the board of
directors. In 1995, he was appointed by President Clinton to serve on a trade policy
advisory board. Lewis Platt's presence at the conference will enable us to explore the
critical transitions that are necessary for bringing out computer systems into the next
millennium.

Michael C. Ruettgers is the President and Chief Executive Officer of EMC Corporation, a
position he has held since January 1992. Since Mr. Ruettgers joined the company in 1988,
EMC's revenue base has increased more than tenfold to over $2.9 billion in 1997, and the
company has become a market leader in the field of information storage and retrieval.
Leading companies rely on EMCs innovative storage solutions for applications such as

Kevin McKay

Executive Board Member, SAP AG
Kevin McKay joined SAP America, Inc. in 1995 as Chief Financial Officer, and shortly
thereafter took on the additional role of Chief Operating Officer. His responsibilities
included financial, accounting and operational management of all subsidiaries under the
SAP Americas region. His management scope extended from finance and administration to
training, education and customer support, to information technology and human resources.
McKay also worked closely with the SAP AG team in the companyĮs recent successful listing
on the New York Stock Exchange.
On September 1st, 1998, Kevin McKay was promoted to Chief Executive Officer for SAP
America, managing all operations in North and Latin America.
Prior to joining SAP, McKay was executive vice president and corporate controller at
Sony Electronics, the electronic equipment manufacturer, sales and distribution giant.
Before Sony, McKay worked for Price Waterhouse.
McKay is a graduate of St. PeterĮs College in Jersey City, N.J., and attended the
Advanced Management Program at the Harvard School of Business.

Ira C. Magaziner
Senior Advisor to the President for Policy Development
Ira C. Magaziner is Senior Advisor to the President of the United States for Policy
Development, a position he has held since January 1993. Since December 1995, Magaziner has
coordinated the U.S. Government's strategy on electronic commerce and the emerging digital
economy. He supervised the development of the President's strategy paper "A Framework
For Global Electronic Commerce" released in July 1997, and has been coordinating an
interagency team to implement the strategy since then. From August 1995 to January 1997,
Magaziner chaired a joint National Economic Council/National Security Council initiative
to increase US exports. Magaziner managed the development of the President's health care
reform initiative from 1993-1995. Prior to his White House appointment, Magaziner earned
respect as one of America's most successful corporate strategists, building two successful
corporate strategy consulting firms and directing policy analysis for major corporations.

Jackson Wilson is Managing Partner - Global Markets for Andersen Consulting. Wilson's

people in 40 countries. Wilson is responsible for worldwide client service delivery and

William V. Russell

Hewlett-Packard Company
William V. Russell is Vice President of Hewlett-Packard Company and General Manager of the
Enterprise Systems Group. He has worldwide responsibility for HP's UNIX line of server
systems, Enterprise Netservers, Storage and HP 3000 businesses, together with Verifone. He
also manages the implementation of HP next-generation processor architecture. Russell
joined HP in 1980 in the sales organization at HP's South Queensferry facility in Scotland
and was promoted to district sales manager in 1981. He became area sales manager for the
Computer Systems Organization (CSO) in the United Kingdom in 1984 and general manager in
1985. Russell was appointed sales manager of the CSO in the UK in 1990, named general
manager in 1993 and became general manager of Europe, Africa and the Middle-East for CSO
in 1994. He was promoted to general manager of the Technical Computing Business Unit in
1996, and assumed his current post in 1997. He was appointed an HP Vice President later
that year and elected HP Vice President and Company Officer in 1998.

Dot Allen, Director of Consulting for Systems, Software, and Storage at IDC/West, provides
action-oriented market research services to IDC's systems and software clients. A
highly-skilled marketing professional with 20 years of experience in market analysis and
planning, Allen joined IDC in January of 1995. In 1998, she assumed responsibility for
directing IDC's channels consulting program. Prior to joining IDC, Allen was a senior
marketing manager at Sun Microsystems, where she built a marketing program in information
publishing, working closely with Sun's independent software vendors (ISV's) in this area.
Before moving to the vendor side of the business, Allen served as a marketing consultant
at the Institute for the Future, Technology Decision, Inc., and SRI International
(formerly Stanford Research Institute).

An industry veteran, Gary Beach brings over 10 years of information technology (IT)
publishing experience and knowledge to his role as publisher of CIO magazine. Beach's

on the importance of reaching chief information officers and other management executives
with IT vision. Beach is widely recognized for his role in founding the U.S. Tech Corps, a

Don Clark is technology news editor in the San Francisco bureau of the Wall Street
Journal. He has been writing about the computer industry for 18 years. From 1980 to 1986,
he was a business reporter for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He then moved to the San
Francisco Chronicle, where he began writing about Silicon Valley. In 1993 he joined the
Wall Street Journal, where he has written extensively about the software and semiconductor
industries. In 1997, he was promoted to news editor, and is responsible for editing daily
news stories and features on technology, and continues to write frequently. He has a
Master's Degree in Journalism from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in English from
UCLA. He lives in Oakland with his wife and two sons.

day-to-day operations of the news weekly. He is also editor of IntraNet Magazine, a

Marketing. David joined EMC from Dell Computer Corporation where he was responsible for

position in the Intel server market.
Prior to EMC and Dell, David held senior sales and marketing positions with Lotus

Janice D. Chaffin is General Manager of the High Performance Systems Division (HPSD)

for driving HP's leadership in the server market, focusing on servers for mission critical
on-line transaction processing, decision support and design and technical markets. Chaffin
joined HP in 1981 as a Systems Analyst in Manufacturing Information Systems. From 1983
though 1985, she managed product support and customer documentation for HP's Manufacturing
Productivity Division. In 1985, Chaffin was named Product Marketing Manager for
Semiconductor' Productivity Network software products. In 1986, Chaffin headed a marketing

BroadVision since 1994. He was one of the original architects of the BroadVision
One-To-One product, and is a co-inventor on BroadVision's patent. As Director of
Engineering, Golin managed the development of Version 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 of BroadVision
One-To-One. Subsequent to that, he developed the WebApps product line. Prior to

marketing plans. Robert's expertise is developing and managing key marketing initiatives

Prior to joining i2, Robert was Vice President, Strategic Alliances for SHL Systemhouse
(a $1 billion global systems integration and consulting company). Prior to SHL, Robert was
Executive Vice President of The Strifler Group where he was responsible for all sales and
marketing of this Dallas-based, consulting and systems integration company. While with The
Strifler Group, Robert developed a strategic vendor relations program that became the
benchmark for consulting based alliance programs. Robert was instrumental in the merger of

person regional operation.

John Lee

is in charge of all partner-related strategy and activities. Prior to co-founding Ariba,
Lent was Vice President of Marketing for Inmac, an international supplier of networking
& computing equipment to Fortune 1000 enterprises. In this capacity, Lent managed
Inmac's marketing, sales, and inventory management operations. Prior to Inmac, he held
senior product-marketing positions at Quantum and Softbridge Microsystems. Lent began his
career with Deloitte-Touche and is a CPA.

Mr. Madrid has more than 30 years of experience at Mobil, in all segments of the large
systems environment. In his current role, his responsibilities were to design and
implement a computing infrastructure for Mobil's SAP/R3 systems, which replace and retire
over 350 legacy applications and remiediate 400 others for Y2K compliancy.
Prior to his current position at Mobil as Project Manager of SAP/R3 implementations in
client server and enterprise environments, he served as Manager of Mainframe Software
Support Services, for Mobil's corporate Global Information Systems in Dallas, Texas and
Fairfax, Virginia. Some of his prior responsibilities primarily were to consolidate
Mobil's worldwide large systems datacenters in Australia, Singapore, Europe and Japan to
the Global datacenter in Dallas.
Mr.Madrid has held various key management positions at Mobil, including international
assignments, Afica, South America, and Mexico. He received an B.A. in Computer Science at
North Texas State University.

the I.S. Department. Prior to Keebler, Ray spent 13 years with Sperry Corporation as a
